Book recommendations for 9 year old with autism

9 yo DS was diagnosed with autism last year. We have tried to discuss and explain it to him but he just doesn't want to engage.
His teacher thinks it would be a good idea to tell his classmates so they can understand why he behaves how he does, but he is adamant he doesn't want to.

It's like he is just completely shutting it out. I don't expect it take over his life, but I want him to understand why he is the way he is, in a positive way.

He is an avid reader so are there any books, either fact or fiction which can explain his diagnosis to him, preferably with some positives about opening up to his classmates. Something he can read and digest himself, pitched at his age group?

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Some ideas:

Neurobears (online course, not book)
A kind of spark - books and tv series. Fiction about teenage autistic girls
Underdogs - by Chris Bonello. Series where special school kids save the world
The secret life of rosie.
Pete Wharmby's Atypical

Different Like Me: My book of autism heroes by Jennifer Elder

I also have a 9yr old autistic boy that hates bring singled out and desperately wants to fit in at school so like yours would definitely be upset if his classmates knew (sadly).

I’m in the same boat, 9 yr old DS, and there are some lovely books here but all from a female perspective. Are there any good books about boys with autism?
thanks

Not a book but my DS's whole class has been following this programme:

"A free programme for mainstream primary schools to introduce pupils aged 8-11 years to the concept of neurodiversity, and how it impacts our experiences at school."

I couldn't recommend it enough, I wish every school in the country were to do it.

Following with interest. I've reserved some books at the library so will report back if any of those are good. My DS is a bit younger though.
