Hi all,

For those who have experience in this I would greatly appreciate the advice as I don't know where else to turn or what to do.

My 4 yo DS has been withholding his poo and wee for about 4 days. He has been dry and using the potty for wees for about a year, poo has always been a bit up and down and he doesn't want to go on the potty or toilet but he will get a night time nappy when he needs a poo and will sit on the potty and go in the nappy (we are going to work on this bit didn't want to pressure him so taking that slow as to not scare him and set him back). Four days ago he just started holding it in, refusing to use the potty for pees, won't go in a nappy, won't go on the toilet. Won't do anything. This morning he pooed in a nappy after my DH he will have to go to hospital if he doesn't go. He is vibrating/shaking constantly to keep the poo in, laying down, taking himself to bed and crying shaking. He keeps saying I will go for a poo in the morning, it's sore, it stinks. I have checked his bum, his poos have been lovely and soft. I think it's an avoidance tactic and the issue is psychological. It's like I have a gravely ill child but it's just him holding it all in. I have tried bribery, putting him on the toilet, reassuring him.

Please help!!

Could DS be constipated? I would try Movicol or similar.

If not that, I think it would be good to contact the GP to rule out a UTI due to DS saying it’s sore. It may be sensory or avoidance tactic but I would want to rule out a physical cause since DS has regressed.

Yes definitely thank you, I was going to take him on Monday to be checked. If it isn't anything physical I just would like some things to try he is such a happy lively soul usually
