. . . thanks to all who have offered advice and support.

Looks I am on this board to stay.

Going to make dinner now, just wanted to get it down on 'paper'.

Feels weird...

Well i guess that feels like both good news and bad news. I hope you are ok

TheodoresMummy · 17/03/2008 20:01

Thanks dusty.

Very selfishly i'm feeling relieved, i.e. so I am not just useless at discipline and parenting in general.

Also feeling sad because my darling boy obviously struggles and I haven't been giving him the support I maybe could have.

I'm glad you finally got some answers, TM.

You'll find lots of help on here.

alysonpeaches · 17/03/2008 21:46

Im pleased that youre relieved. I would feel exactly the same. I hope to be posting this a few months down the line.

It was weird.

I was totally expecting the Profs to say it was nothing serious, just his personality.

But they 'offered' a diagnosis of AS (after going through their reports) and it was DH and I who were unsure. So they offered a 'working diagnosis' of AS instead - means he will be looked at again in 6 or 12 months. He is due to start school in Sept and everyone agreed that this will be a key time to observe him/confirm diagnosis.

TM, sounds like a tough day, even with the relief of having a dx.

TheodoresMummy · 17/03/2008 22:18

Yeh, am feeling a bit emotional now, although have had 2 glasses of wine.

He is still the same boy though.

And we have been given info to apply for some services/support. Haven't looked in detail yet though.

Be kind to yourself TM, Its really hard to get your head around it all, even when its sort of expected.

Before DDs Dx i use to think that i had maybe got it wrong, and always carried a hope that the professionals would set my mind at rest, and say that i wrong.

It does get alot easier, this will not change him and it will help others to understand him.

(((hugs)))

Hi TM. Give yourself a few days for everything to sink in. It does feel a little wierd at first. When my 3 year old was diagnosed with autism, at first I felt numb and kind of relieved. The next day was when the shock hit me. Give yourself some time to get used to the idea. I didn't look at the support and services straight away either.
On my ds's official diagnosis it says he is cute, that always makes me smile, he is officially cute.
Your boy is still you darling adorable ds.
Hugs to you and your ds.
Take care,
x
