Ds 5 asd Ms school (atm) had nativity today they said he wasn't too interesting in going on stage but they were going to try. He's very limited speech and understanding. When on stage children were singing a song and doing some dancing while ds wondered around looking completely lost and in the way. He spent the rest of the nativity shouting numbers out and sitting with his back to all the others. I'm feeling quite down about it but I really wanted him to take part. Will other parents be likely annoyed by this?

Likely some will, you’ve seen their like on MN I’m sure. Others (hopefully most) will be more understanding. Do any of the other parents know he is autistic?

Did he want to be in the play? It sounds like it may have been a bit stressful for him. Possibly school could have arranged an act that was a bit more accessible for him.

I agree with @openupmyeagereyes. Some will judge, but you should ignore and focus on what is right for DS who sounds quite overwhelmed by it.

Don't worry about what a few may or may not think. Some people can be really unreasonable in a lot of different situations.

It does sound as though he was very overwhelmed though. Is he staying in MS?

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto we are in the process of exploring specialist provision with ehcp (echna accepted) currently and we hope to hear with the next few months
