Looking for "It Takes Two to Talk"

Hi,

DS2's SALT suggested we get this book , but it seems like it's hard to come by - I've looked on Amazon and even used copies are £40+ (new ones £90+), but the ICAN UK site says its only about £25.

Has anybody got this book, if so where from, and what did you pay?

Thx

Hertfordshire library service has it. I borrowed it. Prehaps its worth checking if your county library service has it.

I didn't realise its was so expensive, but I think you might find it cheaper to get it direct from Hanen than Amazon.

The exchange rate of the pound to the doller is quite favourable at the moment.

I got it on ebay for about £25. It is VERY good. Has tons of hands on advice and activities to help with developing communication and ultimately speech. It is probably a similar price direct from Hanen, just could be several weeks to arrive if you order from overseas.

Also - if you are a bit unsure, You Make the Difference is only about £13 - from Winslow Publishers as well as Amazon - written by same organisation, but not as much detail as "It takes two to talk". Still a v useful book

Also - Your local SALT department will probably run a free course based around "It takes two to talk" for some kids that are in their system. The course is about 9 X 1.5 hour sessions (without your kids) and there are a couple of home visits too by SALT. So if you do the cours e through them you will at least get to read a copy of the book, it not keep it.

Alternatively - many surestart/children's centres run courses based around "You Make the Difference" - these are easier to access than the SALT courses as you can just go and ask for a place. Only disadvantage is these are not always taught by SALT. The one I went on was taught by an ed psych (wtf) and a childcare worker experienced in working with kids with SN. But you will probably get the book to keep for free at the end.
