Hi ,
Just looking for some advise , i was advised to fill in Dla forms for my twin boys due to their developmental delay by a senco at the special needs group I take them too . Their 3 years old and non verbal , cant follow simple instructions , cant use gestures their only communication is hand leading . Their on the waiting list for paediatric neurological disabilities but unfortunately thats a year wait and were only halfway through. They dont meet the critera for SLT due to being non verbal and having limited interaction skills
. Their not aware of their dangers so can be hard to walk them and the majority of the time they have to be in the pram when outside due to them running off . They need a-lot of supervision as they will put non edible items in their mouths and cant communicate their wants and needs .

The nursey have given me a letter to give to theGP for a referral to occupational therapy stating what they struggle with and their needs and asking for them to be assessed by an occupational therapist due to they feel they have complex sensory needs , they are currently on IEPS at nursey . The nursey get 8 hours a week funding for them to due to their SEN to support them with their interaction and communication .

I was just wondering what supporting evidence i can use ? , when applying for DLA . i don't have much as they don't have a diagnosis .
All I have is :
IEPS
a copy of the letter nursey wrote stating their needs and struggles for OT

Paeds referral letter? You could make a SAR to the nursery, GP and any other HCPs you have previously had contact with to gather further evidence. Has there been input from the Area SENCO or specialist teaching service? Do DTs have an EHCP or has an EHCNA been requested? Are (or were if you are in an area they cease involvement when DC start nursery) Portage involved? Would the SENCO at the special needs group write a supporting statement?

As an aside, I would be challenging the SALT refusal.

Hi ,
Thank-you for your advise , i could definitely ask nursey but don't have a paediatric referral letter as was done by my health visitor , they only have IEPS no EHCP plan and i don't think portage runs in my area . Both myself and the nursey have requested help from SALT on a number of occasions but constant ref-usual to even put them on the waiting list was only told to do attention building activities and intensive interaction . the SALT just wont help x

A SAR will give you access to the paed referral letter.

You should request EHCNAs. IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

Submit a formal complaint about SALT. An EHCP can help with SALT too.

My son is Autistic and now diagnosed. But when he was first granted DLA he had no diagnosis and I sent his IEP. There is a section the nursery can complete as someone who knows the child. Go into as much detail as you can about their care needs on the forms. The cerebra guide is good for knowing how to word things.
