Hi, my little boy is 2 and a half. We believe that he has asd. The nursery first brought up concerns back in May and to be honest it's clear that he is way behind in his development now. We've spoken to the health visitor and he's been referred to speech and language as he is very behind with this and understanding. He is also on the waiting list for neurodevelopment and the ALN advisory teacher for our county is going to observe him in nursery and we will meet with her and others the term before he starts school next year to see what help he needs before starting part time school nursery (Wales).
He is a loving, affectionate, smiley and a gorgeous little boy and we love him so much. We just want the best for him and want to make sure he gets all the help he needs.
With the speech therapy, we've had an initial consultation and done a 3 session course but that's it for now. I'm worried we should be doing more, I've heard about play therapy and people seeing an occupational therapy. Does anyone who has been in our situation have any advice about what else we could be doing now to help him please?
He is very busy and at times can be difficult as he climbs a lot. He chews on his clothes at the moment quite a bit, and if he hasn't got a popper vest on he will put his hands down his nappy. If he is frustrated or upset sometimes, mostly at nursery, he will bang his head back. It can be very stressful. At the same time we can have some lovely days with him and he's coming on very slowly with some things and we can see progress. So I'm not sure if there's anything we can do now to help these behaviours.
