Robust laptop suggestions/typing practice

9yo DD has an ASD diagnosis and has also just been assessed for dyspraxia (still waiting for the report but I wouldn't be surprised). She also has a degree of hypermobility, especially in her hands.

Despite endless efforts, special pens, writing slopes etc no one has ever been able to get her to write for more than a few sentences with a tripod grip, only a palm grip. Her writing is actually ok, and legible, but slow.

OT said today it's probably time to give up on changing the grip as it's so ingrained now and concentrate on typing in prep for secondary. We have tried this before, and she had an amazing teacher who also did an hour of typing a week with her as well. But she hates computers.

She doesn't have her own laptop (and can't use our work ones) and I wondered if anyone could recommend one- simple to use, robust, child controls easy to do Etc. She has become a lot less demand avoidant over the last 6 months or so so we can give it another go perhaps.

And any success stories of typing gratefully received!

You are probably better with a laptop/tablet and a separate keyboard. Keyboard tend to have bigger keys and more space between keys and are cheaply replaced. If you go with a tablet design then this can be covered in a protector. DS1 with dyspraxia still attaches a keyboard to his work computer as he is less likely to press two keys at once. School provided him with all equipment for school, he even was provided a German keyboard for German classes. He did trying lesson on his iPad
