I made one of those for my daughter, quite a few years ago now. It was not long after she was permantly excluded from school aged just 5, and I wanted to get the message across.

Had also considered one for my son, with 'I'm not autistic, I'm naughty!!

I did have someone comment to me that I shouldnt have to put such a t-sirt on her, but again, we shouldn't have to have people staring....

Twiglett - I've added my comment. Geri2, quite right... if people didn't pass comment so often, we wouldn't need these t-shirts. But the general public can be so unsupportive at times.

That post above mine in the other thread really made me mad she has no idea what she just said, silly billy is one name for her too!

It justs shows how varied our opinions are and how different our children are who have the dx of ASD. I personally wouldn't put my dd in the t-shirt but my friend pops the t-shirt on her ds when she takes him out but his behaviour is sooo different to my daughters. Its horses for courses .

One of the most heartbreaking things that I saw was a grown man walking around ASDA with a piece of cardboard draped around his neck by some string with the words I'm Autistic scribbled on. I thought it made him very vunerable but dh who was with me at the time said it made people aware. I personally thought the man should have been 'chaperoned' rather than be left to pace up and down the shampoo aisle for at least 40 mins.

we made our own cards - especially so that DS1 could hand one out when people were gawping at his brother. He was about 7 at the time and he phrased it the way hje wanted to. It was a big help to him.

( and it was much more effective than the NAS one. People would be handed a card by this gorgeous serious faced boy and it told them that the boy they were staring at was his brother who is a nice little boy who has autism but is trying his best. Could they remember their manners and try not to stare . Made a few of them think. Made one woman choke on her cappucino and flee )

Ds needs one that says 'I'm naughty and autistic' .
