Name changed for privacy
6 year old (only just in September). Always get same feedback at school. Doesn't focus or listen to instructions and is quite impulsive. Behind in reading but has mild visual impairment but doing well in maths and writing. Very social and chatty.
He's always been quite hardwork- didn't sleep as a baby, terrible 2's, 3's, 4's etc. but generally super good and kind. Bounces everywhere and talks your ears off. Where is the line between adhd and immature 6 year old? He's not impulsive at home seems ok taking turns mostly. He's come on loads since reception but I think he's struggling with more formal setup of year 1. Any advice appreciated!

ADHD or not DS would benefit from further assessment and support, so I would seek a referral.

What support is the school currently providing? Have you spoken to the SENCO? Is there QTVI involvement.

Thanks YellowRoses. Teacher mentioned involving SENDCO from next term if still struggling but so far no involvement from anyone. He has a vision support referral from the hospital too but still waiting on them to come and assess. He's happy as anything as he is albeit struggling with the academic side of things a bit. Should I be pushing for SENDCO involvement from now? It's all new to me. His teacher last year was really unsupportive but this one seems much nicer and involved, it's only looking back I can see how poor the support was for his visual needs so I'm keen to get things right this year and if that means pushing for referrals I will

The school should already be providing support, and the SENCO should already be involved, so push for that.

If you think an EHCP is necessary, you can request an EHCNA yourself. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.
