If it isn't stimming, tics or epilepsy...

...what is it?

My 10 year old son has ASD, Dyspraxia, sensory processing issues and is diagnosed with chronic motor tic disorder. However at his last review for tics the specialist looked at the video of him 'ticcing' and said she didn't think they looked like tics. She referred him to an epilepsy specialist, he didn't think it was that. She's not sure that he's stimming. We have an appointment to see a movement disorder team in January but realistically what else could it be?

Basically several times a day, from minutes up to an hour, he flaps his hands and feet, rolls his head around, sticks his tongue out, grunts and moans and he can't snap out of it. He can't really respond to you if you talk to him and seems incapable of controlling it although he tends to do it more at home than school. He's done it since he was a baby but its more pronounced as he gets older. Any ideas??

How conscious is he - preoccupied or unaware? Can he talk to you about the episodes afterwards, and if so, what does he say? I preface that even to me this does seem unlikely, but the phrasing of your post just reminded me really strongly of the regular Mumsnet threads where a parent is very concerned about a toddler who is straining and vacant but turns out to just be doing the pre-pubescent version of having a wank.
