For once. Well I haven't had this in writing yet, but unless I've misunderstood we've been given 5 hours of direct payments per week during school terms and 15-18 hours per week during school holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost keeled over backwards. We won't be housebound! Much better for all of us.

My SW said she asked for more and was worried I'd be upset (!!! I thought we wouldn't get anything!!!) I'm also stunned as I didn't actually ask for any help during school terms.

Too many exclamation marks I know but frankly I'm gobsmacked.....

Well done JJ.

Enjoy the time you will be able to spend going out and about.

Maybe you could help me....a friend applied for direct payment and was told that her son would have to be put on the "at risk" register to qualify for these payments - is this true? She was told that it would be permantly held on his medical records that he was a child "at risk" from himself because of the likelihood of him causing himself injury.

That is SO fantastic! What a difference that will make to you, particularly with number 3's imminent arrival. It's always a shock when the system 'works' for you, isn't it?!

SantaFio2 · 16/12/2004 17:13

thats brilliant jimajsm

hope you are okay. There were lots of 'new' games in the co-op again, alas nothing I thought was suitable for your ds. One was called "panty king"

Davrosthesnowwoman · 16/12/2004 17:24

Fantastic Jimjams!!!
Jaysmum, that its absolute, complete and utter rubbish. Lies I would suspect or at least total lack of knowledge about the system.
If you are assessed as needing any hours of support you are entitled to request that they be provided in the form of DPs so you find the worker and Soc Svs pay you direct. If you request DPs, having been assessed for support, they HAVE to give them to you. There is NO connection with the At Risk register or medical records, all total bollocks!!!

happymerryberries · 16/12/2004 17:24

THis is great news, and much deserved.

Jimjambells · 16/12/2004 17:30

good grief jaysmum- not true at all. ds1 definitely isn't on an at risk register. In our case they looked at how much repiste they would normally offer us in the form of playschemes, overnights etc and then because ds1 is unable to access these (imo- they were quite keen for him to) they translated that into a direct payments amount, so I can sort out respite myself. It doesn't even have to be spent on ds1 apparently. i could spend it on a mothers help type person to look after number 3 whilst I looked after ds1. I won't be doing that as his current LSA has agreed to do it- and I'd do it that way so I can go to the supermarket etc. It's also flexible in that I can save up the term time hours and use then during school holidays. But no at risk register needed. I did find it difficult to get correct information about dps though.

Jimjams is right about it being respite but you organise what helps you, the family and the child with disabilty the most. I use mine to have someone look after DD while I take DS (the one with ASD) swimming one day and trampolining another. Its amazing just how much misinformation is given about DPS by the people who should know.

DingDongDinosaurOnHigh · 16/12/2004 17:34

That's very very very good news jimjams. Really pleased.

Eulalia · 16/12/2004 17:39

That's great news jimjams. Does that affect your DLA or CA?

Davrosthesnowwoman · 16/12/2004 17:58

It won't

motherinfestivemood · 16/12/2004 18:22

Jimjams, I'm soooooooooo pleased for you. I know there are some good SServices out there because I talk to them from time to time...but don't always see it in action!
