Hi

just wondered what other people are paying for paediatric occupational therapy. We’ve just been quoted £240 an hour which is completely out of reach (dc isn’t ‘bad’ enough for nhs OT they just discharged him after the assessment )

thanks

Sounds much more doable! Where did you find them out of interest?

£240 is high for ongoing therapy sessions. The cost depends on what type of OT you want and what type of sessions you want. ‘Normal’ OT is anywhere from £70/80 upwards. Sensory integration OT is more, you can easily pay £125/150 upwards for that. Initial assessments/reassessments are often more than ongoing regular weekly sessions. OTs with SENDIST experience are often more expensive than those without such experience.

Does DC have an EHCP? If so, OT provision can be included in there. If not, you should request an EHCNA.

Thank you for the info very useful. No sensory issues. Main thing is hypotonia so exercises in holding a pencil, getting dressed etc etc. no ehcp - applying atm but I don’t think we will get one as he is doing very well currently (but kids with his condition tend to get worse over time - DiGeorge syndrome).

If the LA refuse to assess or refuse to issue an EHCP you should appeal. The vast majority of appeals are upheld. SENDIST is the SEND Tribunal.

I just Googled and was lucky to find someone good. You might have a local SEND parents Facebook group that you can join and then ask for recommendations.
