didn't want to hijack fio's thread.
I am wondering how the docs know a dc is alergic to valium.
dd wa given it on her first fit. she then had a severe reaction. so bad she had to be ventilated. we were very lucky that she the fit right in front of her pead.
because of this she now has rectal pharadahyde.
my question is. has anyone who dc has been prescribed rectal valium as an emergency drug be warned of this?

oh it is sooooooo not. it comes ready made up. it is just you have to insert a syringe into a tube and draw off the paraldahyde and put tube up. I was shown how to do it (well not shown exactly) it is a doddle.

dunt the paradehydee smell? dd would have had that if she hadn't come out of the status.
At the mo she has oral midazolan. Much easier than rectal as no faffing with nappies and bottoms.

trace it used to have to be made up as it is mixed with sunflower oil(i think) but a tame chemist can get it in already made up.
it is very expensive about £80 a 20ml bottle though.
(and we have been pouring it on the garden for the last year)

lol they also said its a very short shelf life?

2shoes · 27/02/2008 17:12

it does and it doesn't.
if you get a chemist who knows his stuff they will know to order it from a company that makes it with a 6 month shelf life.
ours comes from a company in essex and has a 6 month shelf life. but in the past i have had it with a month!!

its called buccal midazolan and the dose is 0.5ml's after 5 mins of fitting. Just pops in between gum and cheek so no fiddling around getting nappies off etc.
Much easier than rectal stuff and works equally as well.
Comes in a little bottle with 4 syringes.
Apparently everyone is using it nowadays. DD is so trendy

will have to ask about it.
