Received diagnosis - so, so relieved

Had an assessment today, were warned it was unlikely there would be a diagnosis, that there would have to be other appointments.

But at the end, when DS was out of the room, we were told that with the evidence already given by all the people involved, as well as what we'd file her and what she'd seen of DS that she was diagnosing autism.

I nearly cried, it was such a relief.

I don't know why I'm posting really. We've not discussed this with DS yet, we're going to hang on as there will still be other appointments.

But the relief to know what's going on, that my suspicions were correct, that I wasn't just an over anxious first time mum, that this will open up some new options for help (however inadequate they are likely to be, we can still hopefully gain something from them).

I can imagine that you were relieved. We had our first triage appointment for DD a few months ago and were told that they can't diagnose but a fiat wouldn't be a surprise as she showed severe ASD traits.

After years of being ignored and even laughed at by one SENCO it was a huge relief.

I totally get how you feel Flowers

Thank you.

We've been so lucky with the support we've had from the school, once we raised issues we were having with DS, and they pieced together what was going on, we at least didn't have to fight them. But everything else has felt like a battle.
