SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Can anyone recommend any good general books on parenting an SN child?

You know, something you could read when your child is first diagnosed which would give you some sense of what to do and take you through the early years.

I know I looked when dd1 was first diagnosed and I've just had another search on amazon. But there seems very little out there, and what there is is mostly american.

Has anyone found anything they have found useful?

I borrowed 2 books from the library which were useful - but I cant remember the names! ( Will post again if inspiration comes but I think one had a title like 'living and loving your special needs child'). Have you got the new early support pack from the des you can get it from www.earlysupport.org.ukyou have to get into the information for parents bit (second pointer down) and tick which booklets you need. It is good for orientation/ lists etc.

Also Stepping out by Sara Newman ( for primary school age Children). ( I find this rather disjointed, but ok to dip into. And the one I couldnt remember earlier was Playing Laughing and Learning with children on the autistic spectrum by Julia Moor. All from www.jkp.com HTH

flicked through this in the library one time, seemed quite interesting, lots of different perspectives.
