SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Moondog or anyone with PECs experience please?

DS3 has been using PECs for a few weeks, and started taking it into school today.

Cam home today with a note that it was too fiddly to have him carrying it with him at school so they won't be using it (but will be using a few symbols in a vis timetable).

He ahs one of thsoe little files with the shoulder strap.

Now my instinct is to tell them to effing get their acts in gear and tot ake it away would be like taping over the mouth of an NT child- hugely unacceptable! What does anyone else think?

Also, my instinct isn't that it's fiddly (why would it be?), it's just that he's making his needs known with it and not being passive. More likely isn't it?

yep sounds like a definite case of can't be arsed-itis. I agree with you - it's just too important for them to treat it like that.

god. No. Not on at all. Bloody hopeless in fact. And whilst we're at it lets all ignore Makaton signs because they're too much hassle to deal with

Is this mainstream, I thought ds3 was going to special school

Actually if you want to irritate them you could tell them to get one of these

His statement review is next month, we've been to look at one of 3 possible SN units but he won't have a palce until Easter as LEA not obliged to school him until after he turns 5, school will discontinue his palce after review though. That'll be fun .

Chap at LEA confirmed he's going into the SN unit though- its just a cse of panel deciding which one.

Think I might just scream disability discrimination at them again. Gitwots.

School's behaviour is totally unacceptable!

I agree, it is like taping up a primairly verbal child's mouth.

Can you get his SLT to support you in approaching the school? Explain the benefits. Are there behavioural issues? PECS should help - school can be made to see that. This is a Disability Discrimination issue.
