ODD diagnosis?

Does anyone know how to get ODD diagnosis in UK? I have an 8 year old with ASD and I'm almost 100% he has ODD as the symptoms have been so so bad lately. His need for revenge is getting to the extreme it's worrying. He even got someone else in school involved in one of his 'paybacks' . It's honestly getting too much to handle. Contantly blaming other people for his bad behaviours. Things got easier to handle after ASD diagnosis so I'm hoping the same happens if my assumptions are true with the ODD.

Have you asked for a referral to CAMHS?

I would also look at PDA.

He got diagnosis for ASD with CAMHS would I have to go back to them? Yeah I've thought about PDA too it sounds like a whole mixture of things tbh and things just keep getting worse.

Yes, you would need a referral to CAMHS.

Im interested to find this out too, my DS had his CAMHS assessment just the other day and they told me they will not diagnoses ODD!

Ah interesting. I definitely think he needs some kind of therapy with or without diagnosis I just have no clue who to go to

ODD is seen as a somewhat controversial diagnosis and some HCPs won’t or are reluctant to diagnose it.

If in your area CAMHS won’t they can still provide an assessment of needs in general and support/therapy if necessary. Does DS have an EHCP? That can provide therapies DS wouldn’t otherwise get, for longer and without the need to sit on the normal waiting list.

No he doesn't it got rejected back in January and I've just took him out of school to be home educated because he couldn't cope anymore.

Have you appealed the rejection? If not, you should request an EHCNA again - if the previous refusal was a refusal to assess I would apply now, if the previous refusal was a refusal to issue I would wait until 6 months after the EHCNA as if the LA refuse to assess this time there’s no right of appeal if the LA have undertaken a needs assessment within the last 6 months.

Personally, I wouldn’t EHE. Parents often find it easier, although not easy, to get support when on a school’s roll, even if their DC can’t attend. Crudely, you are someone’s problem. Whereas, if you EHE it is easier for professionals to sweep DC’s needs under the carpet. I would inform the LA you are not EHE’ing and they need to provide provision under s.19 of the Education Act 1996 as DC is unable to attend school due to his SEN/MH, but if you EHE they will say you are making suitable alternative arrangements thereby relieving them of their duty to provide such provision.

I didn't appeal it which I am regretting now. Senco said she was shocked it got rejected. He is very intelligent so hits all targets ect but behaviour/inability to deal with school setting they were cutting his workload back so much and he was flat out refusing to do anything. To be fair at home we have been doing stuff aimed at his year group and he's well ahead, he wasn't being challenged enough it was just a challenge being in that setting.

I was worried about lack of support but to be honest he didn't get much anyway. I think with ehcp being refused it just put a downer on everything. Schools way of support is letting him sit out of class doing nothing so at least he's calm. I wanted to send him to SEN school but he gets triggered by others meltdowns. It honestly feels at home is best at least for now.

Do request an EHCNA again. EHCPs can include EOTAS rather than attending a school (mainstream or special). In the meantime, if DS can’t attend school and you stop EHE the LA must provide provision (which can be at home) under s.19 of the Education Act 1996.
