Just wondering what everyone does in the school holidays? Activities etc with SN children? DS is severely autistic/pre verbal. Our school holidays look a little different to others!

This week we have planned -

A local walk and a picnic 🧺 (DS is almost 7 and in a disability buggy) I have to plan the route as any big hills are a no!

Meeting up with grandparents - park and another picnic 🧺

A meal out with a local autism group with other families 💜

Some baking/cooking/playing in the garden and trampolining 🤩

We do hardly anything as it is almost impossible to get my 11 year old DS with autism out of the house, it has led to me having extreme anxiety/depression so now can't even be bothered trying anything. I hope you enjoy the holidays.

Oh gosh. That sounds really hard. I always think there should be more things in place during the school holidays for autistic/additional needs children, even if it means opening their schools for a couple of hours a day. Do you work so you could get a break from the house? Does he have a PA that could sit with him in the house so you could get a break?

He’s got a water sprinkler in the garden which he loves - it broke yesterday but fortunately there’s another on it’s way today. He would love the splash zones and there’s a few that do aln sessions.

Bubble machine for the garden- we got ours from Amazon - it was expensive but a proper one and he loves it.

Thank you, he has a club he goes to which helps. At this moment I have taken devices away and managed to get him out playing in the garden.

What about a bike ride? If DS can’t ride a typical bike you can get SN trikes or trailer. This morning DH took DSs (DS1 has complex needs and DS3 has ASD) on a bike ride with DS1 in his SN buggy that attaches to DH’s bike. They are now in the garden playing between the trampoline, pool and nest swing.

I’ve actually been looking at a bike with a child seat at the back - he would love that! He can’t ride an ordinary bike but would enjoy a ride on the back!

How would he cope with a safari park?

Mine was more interested in the railings and fences at the zoo, but if yours is not mobile would that work?

He liked watching the penguins zip about in their pool.
