Does MRC sound right for 2 year old?

Hello all,

We've been awarded MRC for my 2 year old. He has a genetic condition, GDD, low muscle tone, hypermobility and possible ASD.

He cannot walk and is non verbal.

The only reason I'm asking is he wakes up at 2am every night and stays awake until 7-10am the next day. We've tried everything possible but he will genuinely just scream and thrash around the entire night so we have to take him downstairs and supervise him - I didn't know if that fell under HRC so thought I'd ask here.

HRC is for help or supervision throughout both day and night. You need to demonstrate DS needs more care and supervision than a typical child his age. It is not uncommon for some 2 year olds to still have night wakings, so you need to show DS has greater needs - this is where evidence is important, what evidence did you submit?

You can request a mandatory reconsideration and then appeal if you think DS meets the criteria for HRC, but be aware however unlikely you think it is it can go down as well as up.

I don't really have evidence for the night wakings apart from the doctors discussing melatonin and him being investigated for epilepsy as we think that could potentially be waking him up - it does stop him falling asleep sometimes but we don't know for certain it's waking him up.

I appreciate it's normal for 2 year olds to wake up at night but I didn't think it was normal for them to be up pretty much all night.

The evidence we submitted was all his paediatrician letters, childminder letters etc

I might just leave it and see what the situation is with his renewal when he's four.

Thank you for your advice.

Whilst I appreciate

Apologies, I didn’t mean to imply it was normal for the average 2 year old to be awake most of the night. What I meant was it is normal for 2 year old to have some night wakings, so you need to demonstrate DS’s needs are beyond that and you do that by providing evidence of his night needs.

No sorry I didn't think you were. I was just saying in general that I didn't think it was normal but if MRC is right then I'm glad he got what he deserved to.

Its all new to me and It's a bit of a minefield tbh so I appreciate the help
