Autism in girls tantrum

I highly suspect my 6 year old girl has autism
-late talker
-doesn’t really find things funny/or laughs randomly
-struggles with changes
-struggles socially
-gets attached to specific things

This is just a couple of things in a long list of things
She seems to manage fine at school but at home she is horrendous with tantrums/crying at anything especially after school. The problem is I just don’t know how to deal with these meltdowns.
On the way home from school we’ve had one today as she forgot to tell someone something. There was no way we could go back as they’d already gone and we were by a main road. Any advice when these scenarios happen?

@Jammydodged
It sounds as if she might not be coping at school but just about holding it together until she can’t. Have you read about ‘the coke bottle effect’? Try googling it. School’s can be hellish for ASC kids and cause sensory overwhelm. School should make reasonable adjustments to support your child’s needs but often they claim to see nothing unusual and it’s a diagnosis that pushes them to offer support and/or an EHCP.

Another one saying look at the coke bottle effect. If school was easier for DD home life is likely to improve. What support is the school providing? Do they have anyone that can provide emotional literacy support and something like Zones of Regulation?

Some people find Yvonne Newbold’s resources and Ross Greene’s The Explosive Child book helpful.

I have asked school to ring me tomorrow, they don’t seem to have any problems there. School don’t provide any support. I don’t think they’ve even noticed anything amiss.

Request to speak to the SENCO. Sadly some schools say DC are fine when they are anything but, so just because they say she is fine doesn’t mean DD is. They should be providing support.
