Hi. I picked up the equasym[ritalin] for my ds and am going to start giving it to him tomorrow morning! Fingers crossed it should help him!

Miss Brown, sorry went to bed - yes was up doing the chores! I agree entirely, I would rather have a chearfully disorganised hyperactive impulsive child than an anxious, thin depressed one!! Ds seemed to get overanxious on immediate release equasym - it was as if it increased his awareness of the difficult world he was in! Concerta keeps him on a more even keel and he is in a more understanding smaller school. We use 27mg on school days and the old 18mg at w/e holidays - which is a bit low but keeps the worst stuff at bay. Every child is so individual - I think the immediate release stuff got into his system too fast (and too high) and then didnt keep an suitable level active for long enough so he got a constant see-saw effect.
We have a daily story on the loo slot, complete with proud anoucements, which has helped enormously with regularity(till this week -always seem to have a problem first week back at school - I think in ds case reduced drinking (at school) is an issue. We have gone back to night nappies and allowing evening drinks just to sort out the set back!

Hi magso.
We have had dry nights for about a year now and he is nearly eight. Before that it was sporadic, we would have a couple of weeks dry and then a couple wet, but it just seemed to stop all of a sudden. Phew!
Despite our decision to use no meds at w/e or hols, there are days when I would love to give it to him just for a bit of peace! He has no significant behavioural issues but he is so loud and demanding that I would just love a break. Just keep smiling, even through gritted teeth! I am a student teacher so when on placement, I spend the whole day with difficult children (and easier ones!) and then come home to Mum, Mum, Mum, can I ...? etc. I also have two others, a six year old girl, and an exremely hyperactive two year old. Quite hectic, but I think that I would be lost without it all! x

Hi MissBrown.
Well we play it by ear a bit on the nonschool day meds. For a long time we only used meds if ds was out of our care for whatever reason, but his (old)school complained he was more 'unsettled' on mondays and we found that he was better medicated on sunday.
We have not had a lot of sucess on night training yet but are getting fewer wet beds/nappies a night and have even had some dry beds. We have a rule - drink after 6.00pm and he has to wear a pullup! I hope we get there in the end! Thanks.
Sorry to hijack Lottie, hope your son is ok after half term and you catch up on some sleep.
