Thought I'd post here because people will understand. Youngest DD has a number of diagnoses and complex social and emotional needs. As a result, despite my best efforts to prevent it through close supervision, all manner of bodily fluids end up on my carpets and sofas. I want to replace our carpet with something easier to clean as directing my attention to cleaning up is often difficult when caring for my daughter and it would feel more hygienic anyway. I need it upstairs and downstairs and in an ideal world in the stairs too. I'm in a rented house so ideally don't want to spend too much. I'm thinking laminate would be no good because the fluids would get in the gaps. I have vinyl in my kitchen and it has got so many little marks and tears in it from just normal wear and tear so I'm not keen on that either. I have floorboards under the carpet but obviously the gaps are going to be a problem. I'm wondering if others have the same situation and what you have used?

Not in the same boat and don’t know if it would be any use, but after my toddler finished the messy baby/toilet training stage i spent quite a few hundred on a nice thick carpet for my living room. Few months after i found out i was pregnant again. I use a roll of carpet protection roll in the living room. Does your dd wear nappies op? only asking as if she does, could you not use a stair gate in the the living room/bedroom to stop it getting everywhere else

Thanks for the suggestion. It's definitely worth considering though I think we are likely to be in this situation for a while longer and potentially forever so ideally something more permanent would be better. She does wear pull ups but will remove them or refuse to put them on sometimes. She also tips drinks/throws food at times too. She's six so can open gates unfortunately. They were the good old days when things were simpler haha!

Hi, I have this problem. I ended up getting water resistant laminate ( it's not that resistant) I have also taken to putting down puppy training pads in the areas that dc tends to go to most. Hopefully someone else may have better solution.

Is it LVT you have in the kitchen? If not have a look at that. You can get ones that are aimed at commercial use so are stronger wearing.

We got polyflor Camaro in our downstairs and it’s the best decision I’ve made. Looks like karndean but a quarter of the price and practically indestructible.
