Anyone done the Therapeutic Listening Programme? .

My girl is almost 3 and has poor speech (expressive and receptive). Her hearing seems ok. I feel she is under sensitive to sound, not recognising any one talking to her, not being annoyed by things other toddlers might be e.g. drills, hand dryers etc.

I think she needs some sort of sensory training as it's so important for her language development and safety to be able to respond to human voices.

Has anyone tried the 'Therapeutic listening programne'? Any reviews?

We are on the waiting list to see OT and we are under SALT.

Is this the advanced brain technologies programme?

The one I saw was 'vital links' but if you have any experience in any I'd love to hear it

I’m a bit reluctant to post tbh because I think results for these types of things can be largely anecdotal. It’s almost impossible to know what’s correlation vs causation and what might have happened anyway, so please look into it and decide if it’s right for your dd.

Ds is 9 and autistic but he has a different profile to your dd. He’s very verbal and definitely not under sensitive to sound. He’s been doing the ABT program for about 8 weeks now. I heard about it from a friend and decided to try it based on the known benefits of classical music and due to the fact that ds already likes classical music because we play it on Alexa most days at home.

I was mainly hoping that it would be a calming and regulating thing for him in the same way that daily meditation would be. Any other benefits would be a bonus. It’s really too early to say much I think, but over the last month I have noticed that he’s more responsive to me, for instance if I call him from somewhere else in the house he’s more likely to answer and say ‘I’m here mummy’ that sort of thing. Hard to define.

Honestly I don’t think I’d have had a hope in hell of getting him to do it at 2 or 3. They have to listen to the whole 15 minute session with headphones, ideally, 5 consecutive days a week. I bribed him with a weekly reward when we first started.

We've done it! It definitely helped a little bit with emotional regulation and sensory sensitivity to sound but not to anything else.

For the price we paid I was happy. We did it alongside OT for about 6 months when my DS was 6. I suspect 2/3 might be too young but if your SALT have suggested it then go for it!

Thank you both for your comments. As I said she is passive so probably could listen to it, although the headphones could be a problem. If it was speakers it would maybe work.

I will mention it to the OT when I get an appointment. Thank you

We were told it had to be headphones - and quite specific ones (basically a decent pair). Having listened myself, you definitely wouldn't get the same effect from a speaker. It goes from left to right quite a lot - does that make sense? That's sort of the point I think as it increases the way the sides of the brain work together (in theory!).

Yes, they have to wear headphones.
