Yesterday my dp called me..."Come here a minute!"

"What" I thought. "Can't I just get dinner dine with no interruptions." "Come look at this!" he said." "oh no" I said, fearing the worst- imagining a big pile of shite to clean. No. No pooh, but Ds had shiny hands and feet. Still thinking along the lines of toilet incidents, I thought he must have peed on his feet and put his hands in it, but DS still had his nappy on. Perplexed I look at my Dp who is PHSL. Showed me a tub of nail wax- he'd been giving himself a manicure and pedicure. I was so chuffed that he knew what to do with it I didn't care about the mess.

This week Ds 2.9 ASD also drank a whole drink through a straw- with help, ate all his meal, said "mama" to my picture, looked curiously at his nappy while he was peeing(has never shown any interest before) and shared a joke where he dipped his hand in his drink and I said "ummm delicious" (you probably had to be there to appreciate that one).

Its great when children make progress however odd other people may think it is. Well done to your ds's.

That is great! As a mum of any child I think we should delight in any bit of progress or achievement.

PersonalClown · 17/02/2008 15:27

I'm with Lottie. Any progress is great.
I still can't get over the fact that Ds can now call me Mummy and will do to get my attention(i.e not just naming)
Ds took till he was 4 to drink with a straw. He still chews them though!

My ds didnt say Mummy til he was 7 and a half he used to try and say Mother and it came out as Bugger!! He still cant say Granny and calls her Graggy!!

edam · 17/02/2008 15:59

He sounds fab, Starry!

deeeja · 17/02/2008 16:17

That is great, made me laugh.
Well done your ds!
My ds doesn't call me mummy, I do look forward to him doing it.But he does try to get my attention now by hitting me.
Must be amazing to hear it, pleased for you!

Oh that's lovely! He's still so young too. To be naming your photo is great. DS2 is just learning to do this at 5 - and still calls everyone by DS1's name most of the time - including himself!

A very proud Mummy moment Well done little Stary

staryeyed · 17/02/2008 19:14

Deeja- he doesn't really call me mummy he was just naming a picture (the first one ever). I cant wait for the day he actually calls me mummy to get my attention. He hasn't got any language except PECS so it was extra special.

I love talking about his progress but you guys are the only ones who get it. I love hearing about the progress of everyone else's little ones as well.

My DS1 was waiting at the top of the slide for the child in front of him to go down. The boy turned to him and said something like ' I need someone to push me down'. DS1 reached out his hand and pushed him down. Normally although he is very tolerant of other children, he is very reluctant to get into their personal space let alone touch them. - Sorry not relevant to thread but I too, find it hard to find anyone in RL who finds this remotely impressive.

bullet123 · 17/02/2008 19:59

That is great :D.

sphil · 18/02/2008 23:57

I find it very impressive . But then I get hugely excited if DS2 so much looks at another child! Sometimes he hugs Ds1 in the playground after school and I look around thinking that all the other mums are going to be as amazed and happy as i am. And of course no-one EVER takes a blind bit of notice, because to them it's absolutely normal and unremarkable.
