DLa help

My son (nearly 4) had recently been awarded middle rate care from the DLa. He's awaiting an autism assessment, has PICA and other behavioural difficulties. I've finally received the letter confirming this (had back pay a few weeks ago), but on the letter it says "you are entitled to middle rate care because you need attention with bodily functions several times at short intervals through the day"

My son is nearly 4 and still has continence needs and is still in nappies with little understanding of potty training but there was so much more to the form than his toileting?

Have they just plucked one thing out rather than list all of them as it's only a small section? 🤷‍♀️

When DWP use the term ‘bodily functions’ for DLA they don’t just mean toileting. The term also includes things like eating and drinking, bathing, dressing, communicating…

@FloatingBean
Ah thankyou ok that makes more sense. I also googled and it comes under the same category as constant supervision in the day time (which he does need) so I'm guessing it's that too.

Hi, please can you tell me when you sent the form off and how long it took to get awarded? Currently on week 12 and still not heard a thing. Thank you

@Kayleigh33 mine was exactly 12 weeks from my scan date that the decision was made is hopefully not too long for you now

Just called and my daughter has awarded HRC and LRM. We are 16 and a half weeks from scan date. The lady on the phone was lovely and explained the award had only been made a few minutes before our call! Genuinely overwhelmed and knowing how much of a lottery the awards can be. This will make a massive difference to our little girl!

I hope you don't mind me asking but what sort of difficulties does your child have to warrant HRC and LRM? I have a son similar to OP except he needs attention at night due to sleep issues and needs assistances outdoors due to bolting, pica and other safety issues such as running into the road. He is not independent with dressing or toileting (in nappies, 4.5 yrs old) and needs help with eating. He is also non verbal.

My partner seems to think we should get higher rate due to high needs compared to other family member who has MRC and lower needs.

I just read my last post back and realised it sounded a bit snipey. It's definitely not meant to sound like that. I don't think people are supported enough at the moment. I was showing an interest because my partner thinks we should get higher rate, but I think they will try to put us on a lower one, but as you can see my son's needs are pretty high.

It u a nightmare filling in the form. I barely get time to do it as it is. It really is a mission getting it done.

What rate did you end up with? My daughter sound similar and I realty think she should get hrc
