Autism and saving account

I started a junior isa when my ds was born. He's now 5, nearly 6 and he has autism. He's still non verbal (minimal words), has zero interest socially and becoming more difficult as he ages. His progression has been very limited. His future doesn't look promising. I think he will need residential housing when he's older.

I was wondering should i continue to save for him in his own junior ISA? Or should I put the money in my own saving account? Will it affect his benefits and right to support as he ages. Just wondering what other parents do for their autistic children who are nonverbal

Some benefits and social care support are means tested/subject to financial assessment so be careful saving in DS’s name. Another potential issue with saving in DS’s name is if he needs legal aid in his own right e.g. for education purposes.

Thank you for your reply.

I'm going to stop putting money into his junior isa and cash in his premium bonds. I've been googling it all afternoon and with what you said it supports what I thought.

It's just sad as these were open as a baby but we didn't know he was going to be autistic. Just feels weird. As his mother you want to save and provide for him child. Especially since he has siblings who I will continue to save for.
