My autistic son is lovely and affectionate especially to his brother and friends. This definitely helps him meet some sensory needs and helps him regulate, however it can bother other children and definitely affects him socially. When his best friend wasn't in school he was very disruptive and the teacher said that they usually "stroke" each other which keeps him calm! I just wondered if anyone had any strategies that had helped their child regulate in a different way? We have been on the wait list for OT support, we are willing to go private if anyone has any recommendations?

My DD is similar and is allowed to bring a cuddly toy in, which she cuddles and strokes to help her regulate.

Look at things that can provide sensory feedback. For example, something else to stroke, a fidget toy, bodysok, weighted vest/lap pad, sensory bands on chair legs, wobble cushion.
