Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Please could you nice parents of children with SN 'vet' this letter for me?

The junior school I work at has a resource for children with ASD, and the parents of these children (pus a few with medical problems) are allowed to use the staff car park. Recently we've had a few problems with other parents coming in, so we are issuing new bright yellow permits, so we can spot those who are not meant to be there. (Incidentally, this was the suggestion of the resource parents who are fed up with other parents coming in)We've also had problems with parents just leaving their cars in the middle of the car park, driving too fast & staying around to chat to each other after they've dropped off, which means our TAs(most of whom drop off their own children at other schools & come in about 9am) can't find a space, and this morning one of the departing parents backed out at speed into another car.

So do you think this letter is unreasonable - I know that the parents of children in our resource are likely to be stressed & that it's far more difficult for them to ensure their children co-operate - but next time it could be one of their children that's behind the reversing car.

So do you think this letter's OK, and do you think if I send it out before the end of this week (as we want to get the permits out by half term) it'll look like we're 'getting at' the parent who had the accident?

"Dear Parents,

I am enclosing your new parking permit(s) for the school car park. Please could you display them visibly whenever you are using the car park.

I would be grateful if you could also observe the following points when using the car park

  1. Please park in a marked space if one is available, if not please go up to the top level, rather than blocking the spaces near the caretaker?s house, as other people may need to get out.
  1. For their own safety please try tomake sure your children do not run out across the car park
  1. As it is not always possible to ensure point 2, please make sure you always drive as slowly as possible, especially while backing.
  1. Please make sure you leave promptly when you have dropped off or picked up your children, unless you need to talk to a teacher or the office ? several of our staff arrive at various times up to 9.00, and will need to be able to park.

Thank you for your co-operation"

Any comments?
TIA

The letter on the whole is fine but I would fine tune it slightly by saying the following:-

"Please find enclosed your new parking permit(s) for the school car park. These should be displayed clearly in the windscreen of the vehicle".

Please drive with caution at all times in the car park and particularly when reversing your vehicle.

Looks OK to me.

Are you also sending out a letter to all other parents informing them that they are not allowed to park in the school car park? My DD1's school had to do this after a couple of near-misses in the school staff car park.

We've been putting it in newsletters with monotonous regularity Sidge, but it seems to be taking a while to sink in...

Thanks for your suggestions Attila, it does sound better like that.
