Yes I attended a Webster Stratton course and have the book 'The incredibal years' which I still use. My son is not deaf (although his listening skills are limited by his LD, ADHD and ASD!) but it was run as parenting course for challenging behaviour. At the time my son (then aged nearly 5)had no diagnosis but was developmentally obviously delayed and had almost no speech and I was desparate for any support I could find. I had to adapt the course for my (almost nonverbal)child but found it helpful in the end. Ds still has challenging behaviour which needs very skilled handling! What do you think of it.

My sons 11, we are doing a little each week when the lady comes to the house to work with me, at the moment the strategy that works for me with ds when he doesnt want to do something is "right im going out of the room when i come back in five minutes i expect(whatever it might be) to be done!! Fingers crossed it works at the mo!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats interesting Lottie, I often use a timer to help with motivation too- although to ds its a challenging race against the clock and he doesnt worry about the quality! The course I attended was aimed at dcs 3-8. I'll have to see if there is a book for over 8 although ds is developmentally much less mature than his 8 years still.

I must add that the strategy is one that ive made up,, its not a Webster Stratton one, but im hoping that i can still use my ideas too!

I donr the course too and also have the book!!!!

Must say the strategies worked for 2 of my 3 sons, DT1( asd) never responded

I don't think the course was designed for 'behavioural problems' caused by asd, and it is that I struggle with! My son was not dx'd at the time - we were still getting the he'll catch up/ grow out of it comments! Having said that on his better (more reachable) days some of the stratagies work for us. Other days frankly nothing does! I am still searching!

magso you sound like me- I too keep searching but can't find the help/answers to help DT1
