Introducing myself....

I have been on mumsnet for almost 5 years....but due to school issues have had to rename myself as i had posted my kids names on here and somone in 'real life' connected to the school worked out who i am.

i'm sure you'll soon work out who i am...but hope you appreciate why i have decided to 'start afresh' ( i have tried simply not posting on her- but i feel lost withou mumsnet...especially the SN bunch as you are my lifeline!)

I have 3 boys- 14,11 & 8. The eldest was dx with ADHD at 7 then AS at 9. The middle one dx AS at 8. The youngest is now finally being assessed- paed looking at either AS/SPLD/ADHD. None are statemeneted- all are at SA+.

DS1 takes concerta for ADHD and all 3 are prescribed melatonin for sleep.

I have OCD and anxiety/depression- undiagnosed AS....but gradually the professionals are beginning to see that i may be AS...

my husband is undiagnosed AS....he has a son from previous marriage who is ADHD/AS...so believe there is a genetic link !

I have dd (9) who is NT and ds (7) who has many traits of AS/ASD/and ADHD but no dx as yet. He does have a statement though with fulltime 1:1 support.

Hi my son is 11 and has dyspraxia adhd and is deaf, i'm very sorry for you that someone worked out who you are.. they should mind their own business!!

I think I know who you 'were' - and welcome back! I've often worried about being identified on here by people connected with school as my name is embarrassingly obvious!

Gosh,you have your work cut out with three boys let alone with SEN! Welcome back and agree with lottie that people should mind their own business rather than guessing who you are!

sphil...yes i think you do know who i am!

lottiejenkins- worst bit was she was my friend....and is a TA at my son's school....AND her son was bullying my son! It was such a difficult time.

AncientMM....honest- its not too bad- its probably 'easier' for me to cope with a house full of ASD...as there are more similarities with us all than differences- if you know what i mean!!!!
The strategies i have to use work for myself, the kids and husband alike!!!!!

don't know if you know where I am up to with DS (3.11). His language (both expressive and receptive) is very delayed - after 11 months on the waiting list have managed 1 measly SALT appointment, and god knows if/when he will go through CDC/joint clinic. I strongly suspect ultimate diagnosis will be HFA, or just about possibly speech and language disorder with autistic traits.

no, Sphil, I prefer to keep a low profile on MN these days, I haven't hidden the name change, but I've not flagged it up hugely iyswim.

My ds has now been statemented and has recently has been moved to a language unit, he's become alot happier now he's settled in there.

I also worry about others figuring out who I am in RL as I've written some pretty personal stuff over the years.

mind you may still do that thread....as ds3 is sleepwalking frequently- then waking up and watching tv - till 2,3 or 4am...he then goes back to bed- having had a few snacks....we're none the wiser till he tells us.
so baby monitor back in use...this time though transmitting from the lounge to our bedroom- so as soon as i hear the tv go on...i have to go downstairs and retrieve him!

i bought a door alarm in lidl last week which if this goes on for much longer i will fit to his door- but am reluctant as it is a bit loud...and i could end up with all my boys awake!!!!

I've missed your tips about the offers that they have in Lidl etc. I've still got bits of the card-making/craft sets that you told me about one Christmas. I wonder if there's a way of rigging up a small alarm so that it will only transmit the noise into your room rather than waking up the whole house? It's the kind of mini-project that my dh could probably sort out for you if it would help? (Our house always has mini-alarms going off!)

You just know though that your ds3 is going to start watching the television with the sound off or something.

yes CT...he already sussed shutting the doors that split the dining room from the lounge...which we never shut ....

have considered leaving the alarm downstairs so when it shrieks out at some million decibles....it will not be right by our bedrooms...i am a light sleeper...so as long as i can just hear it it will be fine.

we started with a light sensor on the landing which switches on as soon as he leaves his room...which worked till i moved our bed to the other side of our room...so now as i am not in view of the door...i miss the light coming on...it used to shine in my face!!!!

Oh Joy....and they said the sleepless nights stop at 3 months old!!!!!!

I now have visions of your ds3 in a black all-in-one outfit creeping through laser trip-wires, abseiling down, and dropping down on to a chair to watch the television - only to find that you've set an intricate trap involving craft glue and storage boxes for him...........

Not much help for your problem though.

you must have a spy camera rigged up...that is exactly how it is!!!

thing is...when i did that aspie quiz i laughed so much at the question "do you set traps...as literally that is exactly what i am doing!!!!

LOL!

Do you have any of the slow-release melatonin? It's what the Paed suggested for ds2 because he's often awake 5 or 6 times a night. It didn't work out for ds2 in the end though as it has to be swallowed in the capsule to be slow-release and he can't or won't do that. We're back to tipping out the capsule contents and using it as 'ordinary' melatonin. It's worth a try (if you haven't already obviously).
