Motobility grant

Hello

Looking at getting my daughters first motobility WAV. Has anyone gone through the grant scheme for the down payment? It says it's means tested but doesn't give an indication of what range of income is required to qualify. I don't want to waste their time (or my time) if we will be automatically excluded based on income. Obviously my daughter is the applicant and has no income (other than her DLA) but I am assuming they take into account both parents income.

If anyone has any knowledge or experience it wound be great to hear.

Thank you

Hi,
I've had motability cars for a number of years and always got grants, but as my husband and I are both disabled and unable to work, we are on benefits, so qualify for a grant.
I know they take into account savings, but also look at outgoings. As you are looking at a WAV car, the down payment will obviously be significantly higher, therefore you would need more savings/income.
I have always found motability extremely helpful in answering questions, so I would suggest you give the helpline a ring.
The other thing I would say is that the waiting list to apply for a grant (ie be allocated a case worker who will provide you with the grant forms) is 3 to 4 months, and the lead time on adapted cars can be 6 months plus.
My suggestion would be to ring motability customer services, who will talk you through the grant process, then put you on the list to I be given a case worker if applicable. Hope that helps

This is so helpful thank you for responding! Yes we are looking to get a WAV as she will need to stay in her wheelchair and the advance payments are so high it's eye watering!
