Well had been having a good weekend getting caught up on things WHEN..
dd1 breaks a loose tooth in her mouth! Lots of blood, big hole!
No big deal except - she is a heartkid and before anything like dental work or surgery she has to have antibiotics to prevent infection in blood and heart trauma.
Bloody hell - fab gp on holidays - no one but hospital and GP know our history. So call cardiac hospital and get snippy receptionist who says she cannot let me speak to a doctor. 'I can't just let you speak to a doctor and have him sort out some medication for you' BUT you can come to A and E and see what will happen. Oh joy - like I need that with dd1 - not her cardiologist - have to tell history over and over.
So called children's hospital ( dd1 also outpatient there) where the doc said - bring her in ( there was some concern as someone had written that dd1 was allergic to a particular anitbiotic - the one she is meant to have when having pre surgery etc antibiotics) We will be waiting for her.
So we get there - they are expecting us - have her chart, have read through it - have come to the conclusion that the allergy is not right BUT they will give her a dose and monitor for an hour or so - no reaction - we can go home.
Well they were bloody brilliant - set her up in short stay ward - own portable dvd, dvd to watch, make herself at home. She thought that was cool. Me on tenterhooks after dose of antibiotics waiting to see if she goes into Anaphylactic shock.
Dd1 manages to score a yoghurt - some dinner and a drink - she thinks this is brilliant.
Finally get a script to cover her for a week and sent home.
Just need to make appt to see dentist now. Strangely it looks like her adult tooth may have been coming up to and hopefully it will move into the space left by the one that was pulled out.
Boy just a few stressful hours. Bloody furious at cardiac hospital. Dd1 has an alert card with that number on for when she is out of my care - people can call for clarification - she could become seriously ill due to some stupid person on the phone. Thankfully I am seeing dd1's cardiologist with an appt for dd2 on Friday - will be mentioning it to him.
I was so proud of dd1 though - she normally does not cope well with waiting and hanging around BUT being able to shut her off with curtains and have her own dvd on her bed made such a difference.
She did make me chuckle for a brief moment in my panic. The doc gave dd1 the stethoscope to have a listen and put it on dd1's chest, then put it over her own heart for dd1 to hear. That was not good enough for dd1 - she tries to lift the doc's shirt to hear properly - after all the doc did that to her! The doc was very good and put it under her own shirt and just chuckled.
