Repetitive role play of school situations

My son since preschool has spent a lot of his independent play time role Generally things like lining up for assembly or sitting for lunch and snacks. He also often repeats situations around a child falling over and being helped. He is 5 awaiting an autism diagnosis and his speech is a lot of delayed echolalia but he is starting to break it down so he can communicate his needs and say a little about his day. I just wondered if anyone had seen this type of play before? I wonder if it's a way of him digesting all the social expectations of school and everything that goes on or maybe its a comforting thing to explore his routines... just interested to hear how common it was and maybe how it will develop as he gets older.
