I'm having a hard enough time trying to think of something for 2 boys! :o

JuniperDropofbrandy · 06/12/2004 10:54

what about a shop or kitchen?

EniDeepMidwinter · 06/12/2004 10:55

fio does she like making/threading things - my 5 year old loves simple bead jewellery sets, Tesco have a good one.

SantaFio2 · 06/12/2004 11:03

she has a kitchen, and is rubbish at threading but thanks for the suggestions girls:)

i never thought about a shop, just will have to get dh to agree to it, toys are taking over house!

oh she'll love baby annabel though fio, can't you fight the disgust and buy her the pink Baby Annabel bed with lickle fluffy sheep mobile (dd1 would DEARLY love this).

5goldendillydallys · 06/12/2004 11:05

Does she like music? What about one of those dance mat thiingys? Or have I got the wrong age?

EniDeepMidwinter · 06/12/2004 11:06

or a cd/tape player?

5goldendillydallys · 06/12/2004 11:08

onlyjoking9329 · 06/12/2004 11:13

how old is she? 2 of my lot are having video now players and one of them a leapster handheld thing, she will love it, says age 4-7, shes 10 and this is just right for her.

JanH · 06/12/2004 11:14

How about a drum kit, fio? I bet you'd all enjoy that! Wink

onlyjoking9329 · 06/12/2004 11:15

having just read the title i see she is five,if she is a visual child then leap pad/ leapster are very good, or dressing up stuff, the disney shop do some brill ones, walkman.

DingleAlltheWay · 06/12/2004 14:46

What sort of thing does she enjoy doing Fio?
I know my dd is only 3 but we got her the Leapfrog Imagination desk for her birthday, she loves it, but so does ds(5) too,he keeps on taking over from her!Sad It's quite educational, but still creative and fun. I love leapfrog products! We have got dd V-smile for xmas, hoping that it will improve her fine motor skills and help teach her colours, numbers...etc at the same time. I can well imagine that ds will take over on that too. Although he is getting a Leapster, hopefully that will keep him occupied.

Dolls house

hohohoheartinthecountry · 06/12/2004 16:33

hee hee about Baby Annabel! My dd was given a Baby Born advent calendar which has a tiny baby doll in it and she LOVES IT. Spends the whole time cradling it in her little hand. Am amazed - would never have thought of buying her a baby doll atm.

Without knowing what she is into.... how about an easel? for practising drawing (good physio apparently if you draw/paint while standing) or a hobby horse (can get some lovely girly ones with unicorn heads etc, might help her with walking co-ordination?) or yes, books or leap-pad. Or do you think she would be able to do some basic computer games? How about a girly computer thingy that could maybe help with language learning?

hohohoheartinthecountry · 06/12/2004 16:36

Also think a shop is a good idea. If your dh complains you can tell him just how educational it will be... you can practice naming things, exhanging things, counting.....

whitepixmas · 06/12/2004 17:01

Pop-up playhouse.
Bubble machine.
Sand-pit.
Playmobil. eg supermarket set for role play.
Dressing-up outfits.

princessinapeartree · 06/12/2004 17:59

what about the tomy aquadraw? infinitely reusuable, and because you are drawing with water, no mess ever! ad quite interesting watching the pictures fade and disappear as if by magic....

TinselTamum · 06/12/2004 18:27

I can't think of anything particularly beneficial, but would she like some Sylvanian Families stuff, maybe? You can get a whole load of different sets. The other thing she might like (but I may well be way off-beam here) is Feltkids, which is elaborate/fancy fuzzy felt. Let us know what you get, won't you? Think the shop is a fab idea.

happymerryberries · 06/12/2004 18:47

My kids (both NT but I don't think that is an issue) both love the marble run game that you can get in the ELC. You can put it together in any number of ways. Not educational but useful to stimulate coversation/colour recognition/ motor skills etc. One of our most played with toys and it doesn't need langiage IYSWIM

JakBFrostNippingatYourtoes · 06/12/2004 19:02

There's a great mini-piano keyboard thing in ELC, if she likes music. What are her favourite activities? What's her fave thing at the moment?

Jimjambells · 06/12/2004 19:48

I always recommend the \link{http://www.shopfinder.co.uk/Detailed/Early_Learning_Centre_329.html\neurosmith music blocks} (scroll down). Great for non-verbal kids. I bought ds1 these when he was 2 and he still loves them now.

How good is her receptive language? I've found that Leap Frog is too advanced for ds1 really - (too much language) although that may be a good thing as ds2 seems to have stolen it off him.

This year I've bought ds1 some peg board thing that lights up , that etch a sketch thingy that lights up, some whizzy things that fly in the air and an air blower from letterbox. I'll get him some cars, or postman pat stuff as well. I've asked others for money to buy software for him (although again it can be hard finding software that doesn't use much language- he still loves postman pat).

Jimjambells · 06/12/2004 19:49

Marble run is a good idea as well- we had a baby version that I bought when ds1 was 1- and he still likes it- and the cars that run down ramps. I bought him a very babyish posting game and hammer game as well which I think he'll like.

JakBFrostNippingatYourtoes · 07/12/2004 07:32

oooohhh, sorry to hijack, but light up pegboard and light up etch a sketch sound RIGHT up DD's street. Where are they from, jimjams?
