My Son is 12 and his sn are undiagnosed but likely to be asd or ocd. Tall and a quite unco ordinated but willing to try anything. Finds it hard to make friends in a large group. Gentle but history of being teased. Needs to improve social skills. Manages ok in scouts but not really completely integrated. His social choices are reducing and I need to help him now. Know of any good groups in Liverpool, Sefton, West Lancs
Please help a worried Mum

Not sure if I have already recommended this, but there is an ASD/Social and Communication Disorders support group in Liverpool, called Parent Interest Group

www.pigweb.co.uk/

So hopefully they can recommend somewhere.

There is also a sister site,

www.autismliverpool.co.uk/

I have a feeling there is some sort of social group for kids with ASD/aspergers in Liverpool but can't remember the age range or any other details I'm afraid.

I know it's not exactly local, but Blackpool Tiggers www.blackpooltiggers.co.uk run a host of sports clubs for kids on the spectrum. They also run trips in school holidays.

i'm sorry things are worrying you. Are you new to L'pool partsky? i used to work for the council there, isn't there a website called LiverpoolDirect where you could email them to find you something specific? however you may of course have tried this. I am confident tho you are in a good place as there is such a wealth of choices in that area for leisure facilities, etc. Now i know nothing of asd or ocd but i was wondering if
volunteering for young national trust doing outdoorsy type things along with you may be of interest, just an idea, along similar outdoors type thing to scouts. They do things like that up at Formby, or find a young wildlife club where they do things like
putting up nesting boxes, animal trekking etc, in a group of
young people may appeal to him ? Good luck, please post to say how things go.

Thanks a lot folks. great advice frecklyspeckly. We are near Formby. Not new to Liverpool but have been ill with Cancer for 2 years so a bit out of the loop and whilst in and out of hospital my lad grew up!!! Now recovering after op and chemo. I do think the Nat Trust idea would appeal to tem. Loves animals, as all good folks do!! What did you do in the Council? I used to be a Housing Officer in a H.A. in Liverpool but recently medically retired. its a small world, is it not?

Hi Partsky, I am very glad you are recovering. Pleased you may like the sound of those ideas. I was born and bred l'pool lass (now living in East Anglia due to DP job)but i spent some summers working for social services up there, just general domestic assistant in a day centre for people with learning difficulties. I loved it. It is indeed a small world, but due to work and things i dont get home very much.
