Weighted blanket

Hi,

We've been advised that a weight blanket may help our son for sensory stimulation.

I've had a look online but not exactly sure if there's a certain one I should be looking for or are they all the same just different patterns?

Also, how does this help them?

Sorry if this is pretty obvious, there was a lot to take in on the report so my minds gone.

TIA

Hello its important to get the right weight, it's linked to their body weight. Ive used this site though I've not bought a weighted blanket so far - thinking about it though :

Seeking deep pressure is a particular sensory profile. You might find your ds likes bear hugs, having a yoga ball rolled on him, that sort of thing? The deep pressure is calming and helps them regulate and a weighted blanket also provides this. It can also help them to fall asleep though I understand they are not supposed to be used all night.

Thank you both.

So we don't need it for sleep as he thankfully sleeps well it's for when he's over stimulated/over whelmed they think it would be good to calm him.

I'll have a look at the link

He might want to sleep with it once he has one. Mine slept fine before we've got this blanket, but now he'd cover himself under it in mid summer!!

One thing others might miss to mention is that make sure you either get one which can be washed (I don't believe it's really possible due to the material and the weight) or you get one which comes with washable cover. You can of course put your own cover on, but the size of the blanket could be odd to fit AND because it's so heavy that it can move inside a cover a lot!
