Growling/humming - early trait?

Hi all,

I just wanted some insight from parents far more experienced than myself because I can find very few similar accounts.

DS is six months and has been, what I can only describe as something like a cross between growling and humming, for at least 2 to 3 months. It's become extremely prevalent as we've begun to wean, and it starts pretty much the second the first spoon enters his mouth and just continues until he's out of the chair. He'll also be sat there arms locked outwards and generally seems very tense.

There are no other autism signs I've noticed so I really don't know what to think. Has anyone else experienced something similar and what was the outcome, if any?

TIA

Hi

I don’t want to scare you but I want to be honest. My 3 year old has been diagnosed with ASD and she started humming when eating around 6 months. We just thought it was a cute noise of her enjoying her food but at 3 years old she still does it. HV says it’s just sensory and her processing what she’s doing. We didn’t know it was a sign at all but it now all makes sense with her diagnosis. The humming came with a lot of other behaviours though such as loss of eye contact/no response to name/no creative play etc.

Can’t remember the exact age but mine used to hum when he was a baby although not specifically around food. He was diagnosed asd at 6. He is 12 now and still hums but it’s generally now when he’s trying to regulate
