Today we have finally(2 year wait) received a diagnosis for my 6yo DD of ASD but I kind of feel like what now?

Scope offer mentoring to parents of DC newly diagnosed.

If you don’t already claim DLA you can. The Cerebra guide is helpful when completing the form. Depending on your circumstances there may be grants you can apply for too.

Does DD need more support at school? If so, you can apply for an EHCNA. IPSEA and SOSSEN have lots of useful information on their websites including model letters.

Do you need social care assessments? A carer’s assessment for you and an assessment by the disabled children’s team for DD.

Is there anything in particular you are struggling with?

Thanks for your reply.
I already claim DLA and carers allowance as I had to give up work because I couldn't get her to school on time and me to work ontime. School are great and are already one step ahead of the system. Thank you I Will look at those websites. What do the social care assessments entail?
I would like to go on courses to get a better understanding of ASD so that I can help her as much as possible through this journey. I would just like some support and guidance on the general day to days things and things like stimming which she does a lot.

Oh and routine. I'm particularly crap at routine and am trying my best.

I totally get that @peppapig79. My DS is being assessed for inattentive ADHD and the more I read the more I'm convinced that I have it too. It would certainly explain a lot about my behaviour and choices in the past.

Possibly having ADHD and Roy time do not mix which makes it doubly hard when you've got teens who aren't always around at mealtimes and DD has always needed a strict routine. We've had a lot happen in a short space of time in the extended family too including death of a much loved DGP.

Reading you your post has made me realise that routine is something that I definitely need to get back on track.

For a course, see whether your area run an early birds plus course or cygnets or similar.

These 2 OT resources (One Two) might be helpful as well as reading The Out of Sync Child.

Social care assessments will assess your family’s needs and could result in additional support such as direct payments for a PA.

Thanks for the response too. I am also looking at innatentive adhd for myself.
I have been referred to a local service who have booked me on a 10 week course x

I've found the videos from How to ADHD pretty helpful but a course sounds even better.

The more I read i think it's pretty obvious that both me and DH are neurodiverse but it's just so overwhelming trying to navigate diagnosis for the DC right now to even begin to think of starting the process for us.
