Hi, My 8yr old son has had a recent private diagnosis of inattentive ADHD, and we are now looking at medications. Im hoping you can share your experiences on different drugs?
The last couple of years has been a rollar coaster to get to this point, but when your child is so concious of his differences and tells you that he doesnt want to grow up with head like this then you know its time for medication.
My son suffers with anxiety (mostly about attending school) and ive read that this can be made worse through drugs that are stimlus based. Any pros and cons of different drugs, even any tips would be greatly apprieciated.
Just for info, we have gone private as I cant bare to see him suffer for another few years as the NHS waiting list is so long, so looking for tips that might help finding the right drug a bit easier. TIA

You will just have to try the medicines.
It takes time to find the correct ones / correct dose.

Depends if he needs the focus at school those are generally with the stim meds. Also it will depend what the prescriber will give you

My boy has diagnosed anxiety he is on a non stim med.

Unfortunately what suits one might not suit another - plus trying to get the dose correct takes time.

Good luck

We've not got as far as you yet @EliseMum2 but my DS is older.

One thing we have found that helped him a lot was lots of sport. Is your DS doing anything out of school like Hockey, Swimming or Scouts?

PritiPatelsMaker He doesn’t tend to do well in team sports, he gets too frustrated and loses interest quite quickly. He tends to enjoy the activity when he’s there but getting him out of the front door is a struggle. Not willing to give up though, he wants to try ju-jitsu so will see.

@Ilovechoc12 think that may be the case. I’ve printed a load of info off to do some research and understand it all a bit more and will see what the psychiatrist says on our appointment
