DS2 has been complaining of lower back pain since the summer.
He has had x-rays of his hips and spine which all seem to be ok.
We are currently waiting for him to have a bone scan and to be refered to an orthapedic surgeon.
Because we have been worried about him we have taken him for a private physio assessment.
She says that he has low tone and that he is walking with his right foot and leg turned in he is also rolling inwards on his right foot.
Please tell me if i am being stupid but could his poor walking habits not be causing the pain .The pain is on his right side and goes down into his right buttock.
She has suggested that he needs arch supports and possibly a heel cup.
Any suggestions on what I should do can you self refer to orthotics.
She also thinks his right leg way be slightly longer.

yes i think the pain could be due to his poor posture when walking
my dd wears afo's and quite enjoys her regular visits to the orthotist....
not sure whether you can self refer to orthotics?,
do you have physio? ot or any other support that could do it for you? failing that gp or health visitor...
good luck

Hopefully the physio you saw would be able to suggest a way of accessing orthotics before your appointment with the Orthopeadic consultant - after that the consultant will make any necessary referrals. Where are you based, Meea, and which hospital / consultant will you see (if you know)?

It will be at sheffield childrens hospital Mr Clark I think.I really hope I can get this sorted sonn it is no fun seeing him in pain.

Sheffield have a v v good reputation for Orthopeadics. Call Mr Clarks's secretary and v nicely explain that you would be happy to take any short notice cancellations if they come up?

Sorry, Meea, this sounds very horrible for poor DS.

a friend of mine travels to sheffield for orthopaedics and highly reccomends it

Meea - poor walking habits definitely can cause lower back pain. My dd has one leg longer than the other for which she has her shoe raised. In the summer she wears her raised shoes less often and suffers from back/hip pain as a result.

In our area you can self-refer to a podiatrist, although there's a long wait.

Meea, you've just solevd a mystery for me. had an orthotics appt through today for dd, and had NO CLUE what it was, now know, so thank you! makes sense now. Sorry to hijack thread.

my dd has heel cups in piedro boots, really helps the alignment of her body. Its the poor alignment of the body that causes the pain

Thanks everyone nice to know other people think the same as me.It just seems so obvious to me.
The physio hasn't bothered to ring me back .
