need advice about weighted vest/ blanket?

I got a weighted vest and blanket for dd who is 5 and she does not use either. TBH she probably does not need them as that side of sensory behaviour has improved. They were expensive - £120 for blanket and £60 for vest. I was thinking about selling them if it works out she does not need them.

Problem is don't know how much demand there is and how much to put them for sale for. Do you think ebay would be a good place.

I've heard of using the blanket and am tempted. Would you take installments?

emandjules · 26/01/2008 17:29

hi, i will check with ot tomorrow about getting rid of it. No problems about installments. You can have first refusal if i decide to sell. I don;t want anywhere nr full price, just want to get some of my money back. It is 10lbs in weight. If you go to this link and do search on "southpaw blanket", it is the £120 one

I have just bought the jacket only a few days ago new from the Rompa catalogue- gutted....!!!

Going to trial the blanket from my OT before I buy one to see if it is worth it as they are so expensive.

it is actually bear hug vest

yeah thats what i meant I think!

A friend of mine makes weighted blankets and sells them online, and she can't keep up with demand. I'm always reading about people who'd like to give them a go for their DCs but are put off by the cost, so I'd imagine you'd get a few offers for a reduced price, second hand one. Give it a go.

I might possibly be interested in the bearhug for Ds2 - what size is it - (he is quite big and would probably need a medium I think)? I will ask his OT tomorrow whether she thinks it worth it - obviously if anyone else wants it feel free to sell it to them.

Not wishing to undermine the sale of your blanket emandjules, but for anyone else who wants one - you can buy American e-books about how to make them on ebay which works out a lot cheaper.

Also - for future reference for people buying this type of thing - another thing I have found when buying Southpaw stuff is that it is often actually cheaper to contact Southpaw direct, buy it from them, pay shipping and import tax than get it from Rompa. Rompa charges in ££s what Southpaw charges in dollars so things are often 1/2 price from Southpaw. They are very helpful and ship in record time. It really annoys me how much Rompa are ripping people off with this stuff .

What are they are what do they do?

emandjules · 27/01/2008 15:54

apply pressure apparently to calm children with autism/sensory issues down, keep them grounded. dd doesn't really need them.

weve first tried the vest with the OT and it worked well...she then turned round and said if we wanted one then we would have to get one ourselves.

emandjules · 27/01/2008 20:11

we got one, and dd did not like it, but we felt she needed both so we stuck it out. However 6 months down line, she does not need them. I just want them to go to ppl who need them and will get use out of them, whilst getting some money back.

i need to talk to dh, but will let ppl know by middle of week, incase anyone is interested on here.

Hi again

The OT thinks we probably don't need it now. I was thinking that maybe your OT would have someone they could sell it onto since they provided you with it in the first place.

Thanks
