2m+ retractable gate

Hello Mums,

Do any of you know of a retractable gate, preferably mesh so my son can see me that has a 2m+ width?

I'm trying to corden off the bed area in my sons bedroom to stop him hurting himself and me in the night time (he doesn't sleep) he is very prone to epilepsy due to a chromosome duplication and he also has ASD and GDD so I need to make him a safe space for nighttime.

Has anyone found something like this?

I did find one on Amazon that goes to 250cm but with postage it would be close to £150 and it doesn't have any reviews on it so I'm a bit wary of that.

I have found an outdoor retractable side awning but unable to see whether it locks into place so he can't release it and the fact that it has to be screwed into the floor is very off-putting due to new carpet! I'd rather have something meant for the purpose.

TIA

I think you would be better off with a different bed e.g. a safespace bed.

@Thatsnotmycar Yes, I think so too. We are waiting on an OT equipment assessment at the moment but we've been on the waiting list for ages and I don't expect it anytime soon. Just looking for a solution whilst we wait. The bed that I would like for him is just short of £5000 and I don't have that sort of money.

Would a Safe Place Bed work for your DS? www.safeplacebedseu.com/shop (they're under £300 I believe)

@Rhubarblin thanks for the idea but we've already had one and it was a huge failure!

I really wouldn’t use something not specifically for containing someone at night, it isn’t safe (I know letting DS roam isn’t either, but you need a safe solution).

Instead I would chase OT informing them DS is at risk of serious harm without urgent support - if they refuse ask them to note on record (and send you a copy) that you have raised serious concerns and should anything to happen before DS is assessed you will hold the service accountable. And contact one of the charities that can loan such equipment or provide a grant. Newlife offer emergency loans as well as grants. If not try Children Today.
