ADHD medication but can't swallow tablets

DS has been on Medikinet XL for a year and we have been able to split the capsule open to help him swallow it. Now it doesn't seem to be lasting for long enough, he has just started year 7, so needs something that ideally will get him through the school day and homework after school. The consultant knows he had problems swallowing pills but has prescribed Delmosart, 45 mg, which is 2 pills which can't be crushed, have to be swallowed whole. We have tried yesterday and today and it is obvious he can't take this as medication. He tried so hard but he literally ends up crying. What now? Are there medications that last 12 hours that can be taken in liquid form?

Hi. I don’t know specifically about delmosart but ds is the same, he cannot swallow a tablet.

He is on atomoxetine for his adhd and has to have it in liquid form, he has to have sertraline too and that needs making into a liquid at a special chemist, it costs more but he cannot take medication in tablet form, his old adhd one I had to crush into a smoothie.

Can you phone them and ask? It’s common so I’m sure there will be a solution.

He still won’t take it in liquid form, I have to put the liquid into juice. Kids hey.

I know this doesn’t help immediately, but have you tried getting him to swallow tic tacs for practice?

Sip of water to wet mouth. Then, put on front of tongue, dip head forward, then swallow with water. Doesn’t taste as awful as pills, and less wasteful. Will prob take a few sessions to get it.

Otherwise, could they refer to a Speech and Language person / OT who could help with swallow function?

Thanks for the suggestions. Although the medicine is very similar to a tic tac it's mainly the fact he knows it's medicine that is stopping him. He could probably swallow a tic tac easily but still couldn't swallow the medicine. I have asked for an alternative to be prescribed.
