Ellies Annual Reveiw

We had Ellie's 1st annual Statement review at her SN School the other day.

Everyone is really pleased with the way she is coming along.

I was asked if there was anything I wanted to add so I went red, stuttered a bit!!!! and said I was concerned that she has no other children to learn from.

A lot of the children are severely disabled and the few who are mobile have not got as much language as Ellie.

It is so hard to know what is best. I discussed it with the headmistress the next day and she suggested a few other Schools but they still didnt seem right for Ellie. She seems very in between!! I am also very happy where she is, the staff love her to bits and she really needs the one to one she gets off them.

There is no way she could cope in a mainstream setting. She is too far behind.

The other thing that she suggested was to put Ellie into year 1 for a few sessions come September. I think there are some vocal children in there but also ones who literally just move there arms and legs.

I worry about saying to much as you are scared of sounding not very nice about the other children, which is not the case. I just want my little girl to be able to see 3 and 4 year olds that are doing appropriate things for their age.

One thing that came of it is that as she is going to do 6 sessions at School from January that maybe she could go along to Graces pre school for one session a week with a helper.

The Head has agreed to fund a helper to go with her and I am going to mention it to the pre school in the morning.

Will let you know how I get on.

Isn't EVERYTHING just such a worry?!!

Goodluck anniebear- hope you get what you want for Ellie- sounds like a great idea to send her to Grace's school for some of the time

If you get the chance to send her to the pre-school for a session I would say go for it, you,ve got nothing to lose.

My ds went to a special needs nursery but like you I was worried about him having no verbal 'role models'. He only did one session a week at a church playgroup (with a helper)but it was good for him and he could see how the children interacted with each other and the staff, heard them singing etc. It did seem to increase his confidence in other environments such as the park or birthday parties as he was more used to lots of children running about and shouting.

Had a word with Grace's pre school and they were really positive about Ellie going for a session (with a helper)

I am taking the Head Mistress of Ellie's school on Thursday so she can discuss it with them.

Grace was so excited when I told her that Ellie might go with her to ehr Pre Schol after Christmas!!!

She started to tell Ellie all about it....would love to be a fly on the wall!!

I think this idea sounds ideal and great that you have got support. I think it would be well worth it, especially while she is young, its her chance.
