Looking for advice if anyones child has been through similar.

my son is still not sitting or even attempting to at one. His delays were picked up at his 8 month developmental check with the health visitor. He can’t sit or bear weight on his legs. He also arches his back a lot. He is delayed with babbling and weaning he is at risk of choking because he can’t use his tongue properly to move the food around his mouth.

luckily my hv referred us to speech and language and physiotherapy and we have had appointments in the last month or so. But no one had any idea what is causing his delays, physio says his joints and muscle tone are fine.

we have also been referred to a paediatrician but I’ve been told it’s an 18 months waiting list and I’m just so worried at what it could be Google is the worst and there is so many different conditions that have these symptoms.

has anyone else been through similar? Thanks for any advice x

Hopefully you will get an appointment soon for paediatrics appointment..
My dd was a late walker 18 months, had umbilical hernia, hopefully have the physio given you any exercises to do??
She had low muscle tone, birth weight 2lb 10ozs.
They showed us exercises to do at home and had review appointments every few months.
Was under paediatrics from birth, also slow in all her milestones, sitting, rolling and walking.
She was sleepy as a baby, though struggled with weaning.
Some speech and language therapist can help with eating??, well the ones in special schools do I think.
Has your son been checked for tongue tie??
Could the gp push for a rapid paediatrics appointment??
Hopefully you get some answers soon.

Thanks 😊 yeah only one or two exercises so far to work on his core and been seeing her every week. This week she is bringing a specialist paediatric physio with her so I’m worried they think it’s something serious.
I had a normal pregnancy and birth so I think everyone is so puzzled to why? I hope the paediatrician doesn’t take the 18 months it’s so worrying.

speech and language he sees every few weeks and he is making some progress slowly. I don’t think he has been checked for tongue tie but he doesn’t have issues with his bottles. My doctors are useless and I don’t even have the same gp at any appointment all my referrals have been through the health visitor x

Physio made all the difference to my dd, we just did the exercises they showed us. Your son will make progress, think my dd was under them . 1st appointment was at home , then local clinic after that.
Was under paediatrics since birth until 15/16 years.
Try not to worry, they will be able to offer more guidance.
Probably the other physio wants a 2 nd opinion, other person is more experienced.
Physiotherapy got dd walking by 18 months, didn't sit up until nearly a year.
So progress can be amazing.
Since covid everyone I know finds getting a doctors appointment hard.

No speech issue but similar physical ones for my daughter some years ago. I got a more rapid referral through the GP-went and said that I thought she was missing her gross motor milestones and was referred on...

Thanks! Speech and language and the physio are going to write reports to try and get him seen faster. Did you get a diagnosis through the paediatrician?
