I am just about to start statementing process, and want ot be prepared for the big fight as much as I can.
Would anyone know of any private educational psychologists in the Essex/ East London area?
Or is it not worth it?
I think I will need someone to refute the LEA ed psych's report. My ds has low cognitive skills, and this was shown by Bailey's scales, and is asd. He has no comprehension of language, and has severe delayed expressive language. However have suspicion that LEA line is that he is not disruptive, so does not need full-tine support, etc.
Has anyone used a good educ psych in Essex or East London? Or know of one with good reputation?
TIA

I hear good things about David Urani, but PipinJo also used a good one recently, if she's on line?

I have used David Urani and he's been great. Very supportive and a really nice guy.

I am not convinced that bringing in a private ed psych at this early stage is going be very useful. The LEA will most likely ignore his advice, issue a crap statement, against which you will appeal to SENDIST, and THAT is when you need the independent ed psych. It is also good to find out first what the LEA are proposing -via the statement - so that you can then gather arguments against that.

However, one thing that has been very helpful in my case was the fact that I started the statementing process myself, and, I think as a result of that, got to see all but one of the reports before they were sent to the LEA. I haggled quite a bit with the various professionals and actually managed to get them to write stuff that is now proving very useful (we've got a SENDIST hearing in 4 weeks' time). Definitely try to get them to send you a draft for commenting, before they send it off.

I am new to this website and am trying to find contact details for Allan Willis as he has been recommended to me to prepare a report for tribunal.

If anyone has his contact details I would be very grateful if they could be posted.

Many thanks
Vicki

It is vital that is is a parent who triggers the SSEN for all sorts of reasons including the ones listed above.

Any registered and chartered psychologist can be traced via the British Psychological Society.

Hi

I am seeking an Educational Psychologist - could not get through to Alan Willis from even last year as busy in Ireland ... would it be possible to get contact details of Michael Davies? My ds is on asd but as he is quite withdrawn he is not viewed as disruptive so the school do not want to provide any support for him so trying to appeal...

I have a 14 years old daughter with autism.
Her behaviour has become very violent.
she is in a special need school with weakly bording.
the previous school excluded her because of her hitting and injuring the staff.
she comes home on friday and leaves on monday. also all holiday at home.
i have 2 little babies at home age 1 year and 2 years and she has been hitting my son who only 2 years old.
the situation is very bad at home.
i wrote the LEA to provide her with full time residential facility.
They wrote back " they can't do it and they are only responsible for her education, not respite.

I want any advice from you parents what can be done to get a full time residential school for my daughter.
Also is there a place where she could be permanently?

I know one slution is the tribunal but it costs so much money.

does any of you know a good private educational psychologist in London?

regards

tryingtokeepintune · 27/01/2011 04:19

Try getting throught to SOS!SEN as they may be able to recommend ed psychs who are failiar with the tribunal process. Although they are based in London, and so can recommend lots of good people there, their network of information is extensive.

tryingtokeepintune · 27/01/2011 04:20

And SOS!SEN are used to fighting the LA so will be able to advise you on steps to take.

Is around as far as I know - based in North London
Can be slow in responding in my experience

pinkorkid · 27/01/2011 09:16

kakool,
I would say you are not simply asking for respite, that your daughter's needs show she needs 24/7 care what's known as "a waking day curriculum". There are examples of case law where parents of children who sound similar to your dd have successfully argued that the guidance around basic life skills (could be eating, talking, playing without hurting others)is a key educatioanl provision for them because of their specific needs. I would definitely recommend contacting one of the sen charities like sossen or ipsea or ace for advice.

While you clearly need respite - presumably via social services - in the short term, you may be able to argue that full boarding is also an educational need for your dd in the long term. SEN code of practice says leas have to cater for a child's long term needs as well.

Hi,

I have just had my son assessed by a clinical psychologist who is also and educational psychologist and I have to say she was fantastic, she spent a whole day at school with my son and some time at home with him as well.

She has written the most comprehensive report and if you would like her details I am more than happy to pass them on to whoever wants them

Many Thanks

baileyandtinks · 03/02/2011 10:19

my lea one was useless and biased and spent a total of 1 hr with DS in her office and wouldnt talk to me about it afterwards, im so angry so if it doesnt go our way i shall be needing a private one b4 the tribunial

Frustrated2003 · 03/02/2011 10:39

The one that the LEA did for me was terrible did not even advise what sort of needs my son has just said he wouldnt comply with tests. So not holding out much hope for the statement when its issued..

baileyandtinks · 03/02/2011 11:56

i asked for a copy of the report have you had one frustrated? ive not got the statement yet its due today but i lodged a complaint already about the ep report as she missed lots out and made usmptions and wasnt interested in my views (all done in exactly 1 hour at her office)and rushed off saying she had another appointment to go to i askrd for another to be done they refused and even refused to add the things vitally important she left out it had no advice on anything he needs and no social/emotional reports been doneso not holding out much hope either

doitthisway · 03/02/2011 13:57

Frustrated2003 - I would like the details of the lady who assessed your son please.
Thank You

Frustrated2003 · 04/02/2011 00:00

Hey no worries

She is called Dr Carolyn Smith 07834150251. I have to say she was excellent.

I just now have an LEA who have gone to my ex husband and convinced him that she is doing everything she can for Daniel and I am completley wrong and he has said he will now oppose me if I try for residential.

Anyway such as life family law will deal with this one and all from a guy who only wants to see his son once a month and pays zero maintenance.

Anyway good luck doitthisway

Caroline

saffy42 · 05/02/2011 21:45

Hi,
Would be very grateful if you could pass on the details of the clinical/E.pysch.If she covers essex area. thanks

Frustrated2003 · 05/02/2011 23:52

Hi Saffy42

I think she covers most areas, she is based in Shropshire.

mariamagdalena · 06/02/2011 13:05

kakool, it sounds like you're going to have to stand by while there is a huge battle between social services, education and health over who pays for your daughter's educations and care. Usually, the eventual outcome is that they all chip in.

It's good (in a terrible way) that she has hit your 2 year old. You can call social services now and ask for an emergency child protection assessment. If your younger two get put on the at-risk register (probably category physical abuse) it will strengthen your case. Please don't be put off by perceived stigma; it genuinely is no reflection on your parenting, and child protection is slightly less underfunded than children with disabilities.

If the SS and LEA start saying that the agression is new, it's simply a health problem etc, try to make the nhs think they may have to pay for this.
nhs residential assessment

hope this helps
