When did your disabled child start puberty?

I am just looking to find out when your disabled child started puberty. And if it was early what did they do about it? My DD is 7 1/2 and started developing pubic hair about 6 months ago, this is the only sign of puberty starting. What has happened in your child, how long from one thing starting to another developing?

Am not sure i would feel comfortable discussing this subject on here... dont know what others think? Sorry if i seem to be a "wet blanket".

Cappuccino · 18/01/2008 11:14

surely it is going to vary depending on the child and the disability

have to agree with lottie. as a parent of a child with severe sn I don't think telling everyone about their private bits is nice(i had enough problems telling the doc infront of all her therapists)

Thanks 2shoes, i dont wish to make Mitchell81 feel uncomfortable for asking, but some things need to remain private.....

I know I am going to get shouted at, but if you don't want to say then don't post. I too have a severely disabled child and would like to know something, but obviously a special needs board is not the place to ask. I am actually quite upset by you thinking that I want everyone to know her sitaution, it is not like that at all.

Lottie, maybe it is the pregnancy hormones, but I am upset. Sorry

Mitchell, I don?t have a child with sn so apologies if I am intruding.

Not so long ago, a poster came on to a thread on sn, and started asking some quite personal questions about someone?s severely disabled child. It was information that had been posted many months before, and the poster, who was not a regular, seemed to have quite intimate knowledge of what had been posted, something which did cause some concern.

This is a public forum and there are many regular posters on here who may not feel comfortable sharing the intimate details of their vulnerable children?s development with the whole of the www. No-one knows who is reading this, the children involved have no say in what may or may not be shared, and if it was a nt teen I would imagine they would be horrified to learn that their parents had posted about their development in that area on the internet, so it is only fair that children who have sn should be afforded the same kind of privacy.

Obviously you feel comfortable discussing this information with people, but please do not feel offended by those who do not wish to disclose information about their children in the same way.

Again, apologies if I have spoken out of line by posting here.
