Lovaas is the name used for a quite outdated (and a bit intense, at least for my liking) form of ABA. We use something called VB, or Verbal Behaviour, which is a more modern form of ABA and which is FANTASTIC!! It has given my DS (asd, aged 4) some speech and also modified so many of his bad behaviours. There is a website called the VB community which advertises tutors, or what area are you , I wonder if you are anywhere near us in Surrey? You do need really to start off with an experienced tutor or supervisor, but you can then hire tutors and train them up - eg I found 2 of mine on a nanny website, and offered them on-the-job training to become ABA tutors. Or am very happy to talk you through how our program started if you yourself want to kick off some of the techniques??

I did read it was around in the 60's & 70's. DS has speech but his behaviour is unmangable, we have been told he can have meds when he is 6 he is nearly 5. NOt a good option. DD is copying his behaviours so I would rather improve the situation tbh than mask it. I am in the North WEst. Is there anything I can read online about ABA?

There is lots of stuff you can read m2. Have you joined abaUK? You can get peoples personal experiences. There is also a VB yahoo group.

We are just starting ABA after I did loads of research on it.

As for books everyone recommended "behavioural intervention for young children with autism" which is very good. It gives a background on ABA and shows example programmes as well as giving advice on choosing providers and hiring tutors.
