question about statementing

we are right at the beginning of the statementing process. we have put in the request letter, which has been acknowledged, and now the LEA are collating initial reports to decide whether to assess.

We have the option to provide further info - should we do this at this point, or is there another point furhter down the line where our info would have more weight? (do not want to disclose all our info now and be turned down and left with no more to fight with...)

We didn't submit further info until they had decided to assess BUt DS portage worker did the initial request and had written a very thorough report to support it so we decided to hold on to our info. Have you taken any advice from SNIP o (or whatever your local parent support is called)?

I would submit everything NOW and then there is (slightly) less chance of them turning you down. I would get reports from wherever you can, as much 'evidence' as you can (cos, as parents, our evidence is apparently unreliable and irrelevant )

second what givemesleep says. I would submit everything even if it mimics what the school send in. You need copies of school report, any medical reports you can get. Logs of behaviours that are not 'normal'. Anything and everything should be submitted.

Goodluck, its a long road to get a statement, we have just recieved our pityful first draft after going to appeal to get assessment and are now having to fight to get more hours on a statement.

I think what keeps becoming evident on MN is that if you shout loud enough and fight long enough you CAN get what your child needs.

Thanks, we have bashed out a letter outlining some of dd's difficulties, and will get that in the post (deadline on Monday - all a bit rushed at this end as having other family grief, it never ends sometimes!)

Tbh, we have a lot of reports etc which highlight a child in difficulties, and both portage and her 1-to-1 at pre-school have warned me that their reports are quite negative (in a good way!) so there really should be no issue at this stage of whether they assess or not.

Fingers crossed, and we'll get to hear in a couple of weeks anyway!

fingers crossed for oyu. When asking for a statement you can never give too much information!
